The Importance of Inclusion

There are many ways of seeing the same reality. One perspective or point of view is seldom sufficient in order to give a complete picture of that reality – particularly if there is some degree of complexity involved.

There are two main risks involved in not including relevant perspectives:

1. If you are dealing with a complex problem, you might miss important aspects of the problem if you choose to view it only from a limited perspective. The time, effort and money spent on resolving the problem could be wasted because you have not taken into account certain important elements.
2. Ignoring certain perspectives in a social problem is a recipe for the escalation of tension, resistance and conflict. When you exclude people or certain voices in society this often results in tension.
